War

This great evil, where is it coming from?
What will it play if it wins, a flute or drum?

From what seed or root did it grow?
Who’s doing this? Who’s killing us?
Making us swear, curse and cuss?

Robbing us from life and light.
Mocking us with a sign of what we might
Have known before the fight.
Does this war benefit the earth, make it fine?
Does it help the grass to grow, the Sun to shine?

Is this darkness in all of us?
How can we call this fuss?
Have we all seen this disease?
What kind of power does it seize?

Look at the jungle, how the vines twine
Around the trees swallowing everything.
Same with a man who drinks his wine
As he loses his mind and hates anything.

Nature’s cruel, does it mean we have to be?
But men, we’re not from nature. can’t you see?
We’re all brothers here, children of a family

Who are you to call yourself a hero?
Our enemies’ heroes we’ve put on death row.

These men, are these our heroes dead on the ground?
Half of our men near the seashores have drowned.

Water gives life, so why is it taking it away?
Have these hardworking years gone astray?

We are the first to march to our deaths.
Thrown in a fire, longing for our breathes.

Hours are like months and days like years.
We lost our emotions, feelings, and fears.

What is it that’s making us humans, like this, behave?
These trenches I’m digging, am I digging my own grave?
